Lip Care

What causes lips to crack?

The lips are one of the most delicate and sensitive parts of the body and are often the first thing people notice about you. They can reveal your mood, tell if you’re annoyed or relaxed, and even show whether or not you like someone. But what causes lips to crack in the first place? And is there anything you can do to prevent it? The answer may surprise you!

Lips can easily become dry, cracked, and chapped, especially in cold weather or during times of stress. When we’re in dry environments, our mouths produce less saliva needed for lubrication. This results in a chapped appearance on the lips because they have become too dry from being exposed to air without any moisture whatsoever. As a result of this lack of moisture, it becomes more difficult for skin cells to stay together and function properly, which leads to cracks forming around the edges of your mouth.

Cracking in the lips can also be caused by rough brushing, chewing on ice, licking your lips too much, and even naturally dry skin. A way to prevent this is to drink more water and moisturize.

In some cases, lips can even crack due to an underlying medical condition.

If you’re experiencing severe symptoms, it’s important that you see a doctor right away so they can diagnose what’s going on with your mouth and get treatment started as soon as possible. It’s also important to keep in mind that lip balm will not cure cracked lips but rather temporarily relieve the pain and discomfort associated with them.
